Strongman Events
This section is under construction and will be updated with pictures of each event, and ways to improve at each event without training the particular event
Strongman events are dictated by the competition organiser and there are many different implementations and twists on these events but there are some events that are synonyms with strongman
These include....
Atlas Stones- These are man-made sphere stones made of concrete that are lifted from the floor to a platform which can be of varied height (normally lighter stones to higher platforms and the platforms get lower as the stones get heavier) These can weigh from anything from 100kg to over 200kg. This is normally a head to head event and is most of the time the final event in competitions with the quickest time winning. Although it could be 1 stone for as many repitions as possible
Loading Race- A loading race is normally a head to head where competitors race to load items which are normally awkward these can include barrels, kegs, sandbags, natural stones, logs and many other various implements. These are lifted normally to the same height platform with the quickest time winning.
Truck Pull- This is where the athelete has to pull a truck over a certain distance in the quickest time, this is normally done by using a harness and a rope to pull against, although somtimes a rope is not used. It could be a truck or a plane or any other heavy vehical.
Overhead Press- Overhead press is an event that has many varietys these include, log press, 1 arm dumbbell press, axle press, safe press, block press and many other implements. These can also be done as a medley where a competitor has to move onto different implements after each completion. In This format it is a timed event otherwise the event is normally for reps on one particular item.
Fingals Fingers- Fingals finger is a long cylindrical tub made out of metal that is bolted onto a base that has a pivot so it can be flipped all the way over. This can be done in a medley where you have various heights of pole and various weights, or it can be on a single pole for repitions in a given time.
Power Stairs- Power stairs in an event where there is a set of stairs with big heavy block weights with handles at the bottom and they must be lifted up 1 stair at a time until they are at the top, the competitior then goes down the stairs and does the same until all the weights are at the top or until they cannot go on. This is a timed event the fastest time to complete all the items.
Squat Frame- A squat frame is normally attached to a car, the competitor must squat as many times as possible in the given time, the most reps wins.
Deadlift- Deadlift can be done in a variety of ways in stronger with different implements, normally it is done on a thick bar(axle) but can be on a frame that goes under a vehicle, or it can be on a normal bar
Keg Toss- Keg toss is an event that is done where a series of heavier kegs is thrown over a bar and the quickest time wins, although this event could be with 1 keg and a raising bar which raises after every sucessful attempt.
Super Yoke- A super yoke is a frame that the heavy part sits on the floor, the bar goes behind your head, when your lift it off the floor in a very partial squat movement the weight comes off the ground, you then need to complete a given distance walking with the weight as it swing, this is a timed event. Sometimes the shell of a car can be used which u are strapped into and have to walk with instead.
Frame Carry/Farmers Walk- Farmers walk is where you have two implements at your sides that you pick up off the floor and walk with, this is mainly a grip event. This can be for maximium distance or quickest time to complete a certain distance
Drag- This involves dragging something weighed down along the floor for a certain distance, this could be a anchor/heavy chain sled, or various other implemenets.
Tyre Flip- In the tyre flip a big heavy tyre normally from a earthmover is flat on the floor and you need to pick up one side and flip it all the way over, this event can be do for a number of reps for example 8 then your given a time or for the maximium number of flips in a given time.
Arm Over Arm- Arm over arm is where you have a rope attached to a vehicle or sled or another object which you then have to pull towards you until you pass the object over a specific mark.
Weighted Hold- During this event the athlete has to take a given implement and hold it for as long as possible the hold can be two items one in each arm out to your sides or could be a forward hold where you hold with both hands and have to hold it arms locked forward for as long as possible
Conans Wheel- Conans wheel is a pole which is fixed on an axis which has weights on the end of it that are on the floor, you pick this up off the floor, and then can walk around in a clockwise position carrying the weight, this is done for the number of degrees you have completed in turns, 1 turn being 360 and you keep going until you drop it
