  • There are four main types of grip strength

Crushing grip: This is the ability of the hand to generate force when moving from an open to a closed position. The main way to train this is through the use of grippers.

Pinching Grip: This is the ability of the hand be to hold a weight between the thumb and fingers, this can be done in many ways but a common one is plate pinches single or double handed.

Holding Grip: This is the ability of the hand to be able to hold onto a weight using a normal grip, this is normally done with thick bars to make it even harder and can be for a maximium weight or maximium time

Extensor: The opposite of crushing grip is extensors which are to open your hand, train this to keep a balance, these can be done by spreading your hand in sand or rice in a small jar, or putting rubber bands round your fingers and trying to open them
