What Is Strongman?

Strongman is a strength sport that requires you not only to be powerful but to be fast, athletic, and have whats called "functional strength" This is strength that can be applied to everyday life rather than be restricted in one plane of motion. In strongman if you have any weaknesses they will show.

The Format of strongman competitions are in the style of events(for indivdual event explinations please visit the events link) A competition normally consists of 5-6 events and these events are decided upon by the organiser. The athletes then score points depending on the position they came in each event. The Athlete with the most points wins. Unlike Powerlifting or Olympic Weightlifting strongman has alot more variety due to the many different event types with different rules, although this does make it hard for there to be any real sort of standard although this was attempted by IFSA.

Strongman is normally aired on tv during christmas time for the Worlds Strongest Man, but there are other large competitions such as Arnold Classic and Fortissimus aswell as many countrys running there own strongest man, and even some countys/states doing the same. Even if you are not at this level there are many novice/first timer competitions being held frequently to let people get experience and find new possible talents within the sport

Strongman in the UK is normally split into weight categories the lowest being the under 90kg category then under 105kg then open weight, although talk is possible in the future of a lower weight category
